Intelligent Pathways is a rapidly growing company and currently has 40 employees, located throughout Australia. Carbon Insight is managed by a dedicated team of developers and support staff who work out of the Intelligent Pathways Head Office in Brisbane.
We have a number of clients using our environmental data management portfolio from industries including Mining, Government, Construction and Services sector.
Carbon Insight provides all the necessary tools for you to monitor and improve your energy, water or greenhouse performance.
We do not provide sustainability or emissions reduction consulting.
Overview
Carbon Insight is a data collection and reporting tool for energy, waste, consumption, and greenhouse gas data. Data can be automatically collected via software integration, or manually collected via data input. The pre-configured emissions calculators and report templates facilitate reporting for a number of legislated requirements including NGER. Additional Carbon Insight report templates enable businesses to set and track key performance indicators.
Carbon Insight has been designed to meet government calculation and reporting guidelines and can be used by anyone responsible for business and environmental management in your organisation. It can also be used by sustainability consultants to track and monitor multiple organisations.
A corporation or facility must report when it produces greenhouse gases, produces energy, or consumes energy at or above the specified quantity per financial year. Current thresholds are available from www.climatechange.gov.au/reporting
Measuring, monitoring and reducing emissions and energy consumption have many rewards. Significant cost savings can be achieved not only by reducing the organisation’s government mandated charges, but by reducing fuel and energy costs with improved efficiencies. It can also be a great value add to your corporate brand.
Carbon Insight was officially launched at the Carbon Expo in September 2009.
You can organise a demonstration of Carbon Insight by contacting us via the enquiry form on the 'Contact Us' page of this website.
Carbon Insight is a software package, supported by a dedicated team who configure, customise and develop unique environmental data management solutions for your business needs.
The privacy and security of corporate data are provided by one of two methods. If you choose to host Carbon Insight on your IT infrastructure, data is secured according to your IT policy. If you choose Carbon Insight to be hosted by us, we mandate security via our Service Level Agreement document.
If you have an existing CEMS, we can conduct a gap analysis to identify what additional functionality you will gain if you choose to deploy Carbon Insight. In any case, our Environmental Data Exchange Network (EDEN) can electronically supply data for other CEMS.
At the time of writing, the Australian Federal Government has postponed the CPRS until 2012. Carbon Insight has been designed to accommodate the introduction of an emissions trading scheme and Intelligent Pathways is well positioned to introduce this functionality. Please ask one of our customer service representatives if you require more information.
The product will work outside Australia however most calcuation methods defined in the solution are specific to Australian legislation.
Carbon Insight is designed to provide efficient and accurate data collection, calculations, analysis and reporting. Its tools help you identify potential emissions reductions and the resulting cost savings. With the projected escalation in electricity and other utility costs, each kWh saved will improve your bottom line. Business processes are streamlined in a number of ways including through effective data capture methods and targeted reporting. Please ask one of our customer service representatives if you require more information.
Carbon Insight promotes record keeping standards for regulatory and quality assurance in accordance with the reporting principles of the NGER Act. All emissions and sources can be identified and recorded and the solution enables the identification of uploaded information back to its original source. Detailed and secure audit trails are created, containing information such as when and by whom the record was modified, and the before and after values.
Carbon Insight implements calculation methods (and applies factors for energy, emissions and uncertainty) as per the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (Measurement) Determination 2008. The chosen calculation method may be changed over time (in compliance with any government legislation). Carbon Insight supports this by allowing an effective month range to be established against any selected calculation method for an activity.
Intelligent Pathways quality checks and tests all calculation algorithms before releasing them into Carbon Insight.
Spreadsheets are often used by companies to initially document and report their emissions. As the amount and scope of data increases, some companies find that they do not provide the ready functionality to support greater complexities. Carbon Insight provides a ready-to-run application, built specifically to handle the complexities and database requirements of such a scenario.
There are varying versions of Carbon Insight depending on your organisation needs.
Any number of activities may be added to the existing activities pre-configured within Carbon Insight.
Delivery / Setup
Carbon Insight is delivered as either a fully hosted Software as a Service (SaaS) solution on our IT infrastructure, or hosted on your company's IT infrastructure. See Hosting for more details or contact us

Reporting
Yes, Carbon Insight produces these reports from the NGER hierarchy you have established within the application.
When the Department of Climate Change finalises the format and interface, the automated upload functionality will be incorporated into Carbon Insight.
There are two levels of reporting functions available with Carbon Insight: Basic statistical reports can be created by financial year and can be filtered by hierarchy element. Detailed custom reports can be created using the dashboard reporting tool. This tool plugs into Carbon Insight and gives you the ability to create and customise your reports.
Carbon Insight supports non-NGER activities including water and waste.
Carbon Insight delivers various reports, including:
Hierarchy reports: these reports provide a summary view of the site activity data for a selected financial year. The report information replicates the information displayed in the GHG Inventory.
NGER Hierarchy and Activity Data: these reports extract all the NGER hierarchy and emissions data information established in Carbon Insight and output it in a simple format for (currently) manual transfer into OSCAR.
Uncertainty & Incidental Emissions: these reports can be used as an auditing tool to demonstrate data confidence and compliance.
Dashboard Reporting (Knowldege Desktop): this powerful business intelligence tool allows you to create and customise reports. You can drill down to the inner workings of all calculations.
Reporting options are supported by an export function allowing you to easily share information with others.
All validated and cleansed data resides in the Carbon Insight central database. A user can then select the report they wish to create. Any number of report options may then be configured including selection of activities and a date or time period. The requested information is then displayed accordingly.
